Home tour: a $499,900 two-story in Covington, Gretna

The kitchen in this one had me thinking about what a little interior design could do — because the bones are really good. Walk through it with me.

The short answer

19912 Birch St is a four-bedroom, three-bath two-story in Covington, listed at $499,900. The stone fireplace between built-ins and the walk-in pantry are the standouts, and the main-level office could work as a fifth bedroom. The kitchen already has quartz, stainless, and a big island — the question is whether a few design moves would make it feel like yours.

What stood out on the walk-through

Fireplace
Floor-to-ceiling stone between built-ins

This is the wall you see first from the two-story entry, and it carries the whole living room. Built-ins on both sides mean you are not buying bookshelves the first weekend.

Pantry
A huge walk-in

Not a cabinet with a door on it — an actual room. Paired with the island and the cabinet space, this kitchen stores a Costco run without a fight.

Office
Main level, could be a fifth bedroom

A dedicated office off the main floor, plus a half bath close by. Works for someone working from home now, or a guest room for a parent later.

Laundry
A folding counter that converts to a sink

A small thing that you notice every single week. The drop zone by the garage entry is the other one.

Outside
Covered patio, large yard

Room to actually use the yard, and shade on the patio in July.

So — would you update this kitchen?

Here is what I kept thinking on the tour. The expensive parts are already done: quartz counters, stainless appliances, a large center island, and a lot of cabinets. Those are the things that cost real money to change.

What is left is the layer that makes a kitchen feel like a specific person lives there — lighting over the island, cabinet hardware, a backsplash, maybe a paint color on the cabinets. Those are weekend-sized changes, not a remodel. Buying a house where the bones are right and the finishes are a choice is usually a better deal than paying extra for someone else’s taste.

Tell me in the YouTube comments: would you change it, or leave it exactly as is?

What $499,900 means in Gretna right now

Over the past six months, the median closed price in Gretna was about $440,000. At $499,900, this house sits above the middle of the market — which lines up with a two-story this size, with a main-level office and a large yard.

Covington puts you close to Highway 370 and Highway 6, with shopping and dining a few minutes away. If you commute toward Papillion or Offutt, that is the part worth test-driving at rush hour.

Questions about tours like this

Can you show me this house even though it is not your listing?

Yes. As a buyer’s agent I can show you almost any house on the market, regardless of who listed it. I share tours like this because it is easier to judge a house after walking through one first.

Is this house still available?

Listings move quickly. Price and status here are from September 2026. Check the listing or ask me and I will confirm the current status.

What does “fifth legal bedroom” mean?

Generally that the room has what a bedroom needs to be counted as one, like a closet, a window large enough to exit through, and minimum size. Confirm the details with an inspector and the listing agent before you count on it.
